  • [Title] An Interesting Association of Cystic Hygroma of the Neck and Lymphangioma Causing a Paediatric Swollen Tongue.
  • Of these, cystic hygromas and lymphangiomas have been widely reported; however they rarely occur in the same patient.
  • We report the case of a 5-year-old girl who presented to the Department of Paediatrics of a district general hospital with a short history of recurrent, painful swelling of the anterior one-third of her tongue.
  • Diagnosis of lymphangioma was made and of the potential management options available active monitoring was favoured due to the patient's age.
  • To our knowledge the occurrence of both tongue lymphangioma and cystic hygroma has not been previously reported in a paediatric patient.
  • This case report therefore shows a rare association between a cystic hygroma of the neck and lymphangioma of the tongue.

  • [Source] The source of this record is MEDLINE®, a database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
  • [Title] Retroperitoneal lymphangioma in an adult: a case report of a rare clinical entity.
  • Background. Retroperitoneal lymphangioma is a rare, benign mesodermal tumor arising from the retroperitoneal lymphatics which usually presents in infancy and it is worthy to report a case when it has presented in an adult.
  • After a thorough literature search in English we concluded that less than 200 cases of adult retroperitoneal lymphangioma have been reported so far.
  • Apart from being a rare entity it also presents as a diagnostic dilemma and final diagnosis is often made on surgical exploration.
  • We report a case of retroperitoneal lymphangioma in a 55-year-old male who presented with abdominal distension and dull aching abdominal pain.
  • Conclusion. Retroperitoneal lymphangiomas are rare tumors of infancy but may also present in adults where they are a diagnostic challenge.
  • Differentiating cystic lymphangiomas from other cystic growths by imaging studies alone are often inconclusive and surgery is frequently required for definitive diagnosis and to ameliorate the symptoms.

  • [Title] Splenic cystic lymphangioma with atypical ultrasound findings.
  • Splenic lymphangiomas are rare benign tumors occurring more frequently in children.
  • Because of their asymptomatic growth, splenic lymphangiomas are usually suspected based on incidental findings, the diagnosis relying on different imaging techniques and requiring histological confirmation.
  • The rarity of the disease and its atypical imaging findings make the diagnosis of splenic lymphangiomas challenging.
  • We describe the case of an isolated splenic cystic lymphangioma affecting an elderly female patient.
  • The tumor appeared on gray-scale ultrasound as an inhomogeneous, mostly hyperechoic septated mass, which is atypical for a cystic lymphangioma.
  • Contrast-enhanced ultrasound and contrast-enhanced computed tomography suggested the benign nature of the tumor and narrowed the diagnosis.
  • Various CT and MRI findings in splenic lymphangiomas have been described, but very few reports regarding CEUS exist to this point.

  • At laparatomy, a cystic lymphangioma was resected.
  • Lymphangiomas are rare benign tumours and are reported to occur preferentially in the neck of axilla in children.
  • Abdominal lymphangiomas are extremely rare particularly in adults but important to recognise due to a potential for serious consequences.

  • [Title] Ileo-ileal intussusception caused by lymphangioma of the small bowel treated by single-incision laparoscopic-assisted ileal resection.
  • Intraabdominal lymphangiomas are uncommon; additionally, those affecting the gastrointestinal tract are rare and account for less than 1% of cases.
  • Intussusception caused by a cystic lymphangioma of the small bowel is extremely rare.
  • The surgical specimen consisted of a soft polycystic mass.
  • The lesion was diagnosed as a cystic lymphangioma.
  • Dozens of cases of small bowel lymphangiomas have previously been reported.
  • This is the first case of small bowel intussusception due to lymphangioma treated by single-incision laparoscopic-assisted surgery.
